SENIORNET WORKSHOP PROGRAMMES REVIEW
Tell me and I forget
Show me and I remember
Involve me and I understand
Altered needs of our members and new technologies could dictate, that in the near future, the type of programme we offer could drastically change.
Many members do not want a full 8 week course but rather just a small ‘bite’ of those courses
Many more new members have been exposed to computers in their careers. Their exposure to computer programmes is likely to have been to the common office suite programmes that we now teach.
While recognising that they may have been trained in this ‘narrow’ field, there is still scope for extending their exposure to the wider aspects of those programmes.
Judging from the above, and present interest in workshops and special interest groups, there is an indication that we need to review our training programmes to cater for more interests beyond office programmes.
“We don’t know what we don’t know.”
A survey of member needs to identify the skills and technologies that they wish to be introduced to is necessary.
Having said that, we need to give them some idea of what skills and technologies are available.
Should we become more involved in presentations on the more philosophical aspects of communication?
A list is attached (which is not exhaustive) that indicates the type of skills and technologies that could be considered.
The big question marks are
- What internal skills have we that can support additional training
- Which of those people are willing and able to use those skills
- Can we go outside the organisation for skill and technology resources
- Is there a cost?
Timetables and space considerations for any change in training process need to be established.
- Review the attached list as a guide
- Review other SeniorNet initiatives
- Survey to identify needs of members
- Identify internal skills
- Identify external skill sources
- Decide if we should introduce more social networking
- Consider costs, and resources of time and space
- Develop internal skills.
